An Introduction To Baltimore by Mark Johnson

Baltimore, located in the east shore of America, is the biggest city in the state of Maryland, and is better known as Charm City. It boasts a big natural harbor found beside the Patapco River, and is a bustling port. Baltimore is located at a distance of 200 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean, close to the Chesapeake Bay. More than 600,000 individuals reside in Baltimore, in the middle of 6,400 acres of parkland. The nation's national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner, was composed in Baltimore by Francis Scott Key. Key had survived the bombing of Fort McHenry and was imprisoned on a British ship on September 13, 1814. Upon the cessation of the bombing, the sight of the American flag flying high inspired him to compose the Star Spangled Banner poem, which eventually became the national anthem as well as a tune.

The major highlights apart from the Inner Harbor are the National Aquarium, the Baltimore Museum, the Maryland Science Center, the Baltimore Ravens and Fort McHenry. The major league Baltimore Orioles team is based at Camden Yards, with little cafes, microbreweries, and shops in the surrounding roads.
